There's more than you think!

The aim of this website is to provide an introduction to the wild animals and plants that can be found within the boundaries of Bexhill.

Broad-bodied Chaser

In recent years it has become more apparent that the demands of modern day society is putting ever-greater strains on the world around us. Population increase and the relentless quest for more efficient means of production have led to urban sprawl and more intensive farming methods which in turn puts pressure on the wildlife on which we also depend. Global warming and habitat loss have resulted in steep declines in the populations of some species and some of these are vital to the future of our food supplies as well as our enjoyment of the countryside.

So the intention here is simply to raise awareness of the wildlife in the Bexhill area. Firstly by suggesting where you might look, and there are many places in Bexhill, some well-known and other less so. Secondly by listing some of the species that are very common in the area or most easily recognised. The hope is that by becoming more aware of the wildlife around us we can also gain an appreciation of what we can do to reverse the decline in populations of some of the species we are in danger of losing altogether.
